President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed the National Governors Association to the White House for the 2010 Governors Ball this past Sunday. This was the first large White House dinner in 2010. Fun & light hearted speech by the President!

First Lady Michelle wore a black georgette tiered ruffle gown by fashion designer Thakoon.

No word of gate crashers at this event…phew!

Also the First Lady recently sat down for a Washington Post interview about her Let’s Move initiative to help combat childhood obesity…

For the interview, Mrs. Obama wore a Moschino sheath dress…

President Barack Obama delivered his first State of the Union address to both houses of the United States Congress (Senate and the House of Representatives) at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC.

President Obama talked about the economy including job creation, financial reform and encouraging American reform, (amongst other things)…

Happy Martin Luther King Day!

Dr. Martin Luther King inspired the world with his “dream” for a nation where the citizens will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character…& today was a day in his honor! A day of service to mankind!

President Barack Obama hosted a conversation with a small group of African American seniors and their grandchildren on the legacy of the civil rights movement at the White House. First Lady Michelle Obama also attended the gathering.

The First Lady looked fab in a purple tweed sheath dress with an asymmetrical neckline and three-quarter length sleeves as she toured the American Red Cross. She was there to also speak with employees at the Disaster Operations Center of the American Red Cross in Washington, DC.

Earlier in the day President Obama, Mrs. Obama, and their two daughters served lunch at So Others Might Eat in Washington DC to celebrate the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The soup kitchen opened in the 1970s and now serves more than 1,000 men, women and children each day. Mrs. O kept her look casual, sporting cropped pants, a blue cardigan and a cap as she served lunch.

Washington D.C was happening this past weekend! The 3rd Annual BET Honors were held there over the weekend. The 2010 honorees included legendary songstress Whitney Houston (Entertainment), multi-faceted entertainer Queen Latifah (Media), respected business mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs (Entrepreneur), accomplished educator Dr. Ruth Simmons (Education), and world-renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Keith Black (Public Service).

Hosted by actress Gabrielle Union, the evening included performances by Trey Songz, Stevie Wonder, India Arie, Jazmine Sullivan, Mary J. Blige, Pattie Labelle and Jennifer Hudson.

Happy birthday to the U.S uber fab First Lady, Mrs. Obama, who turns 46 today (Sunday, January 17)!

Mrs. O was treated to a few celebrations over the past few days, first with White House staffers on Friday [see picture below]…

On Saturday night, President Obama took his beautiful wife to dinner at Restaurant Nora, one of Washintong DC’s best known special occasion restaurants. Joining them were their Chicago friends and according to Lynn Sweet, the First Couple arrived at Nora’s at 6:38 p.m. and departed at 10:22 p.m.

Mad shout-out for all of you who have helped and who continue to assist Haiti!

I was relieved to hear that my friend Sekuru Bob’s family in Haiti is ok. Keeping my friend Dell Isidor in Canada in my thoughts & prayers, he has family in Haiti. Fashion Expose, founded by Haitian couture designer, Prajje Jean-Baptiste is reaching out to help those in Haiti that are suffering from the recent tragedy through EDE Haiti. So Wyclef Jean’s non profit organization, Yele Haiti has had some negative pub recently regarding the organization’s finances. Wyclef responded to The Smoking Gun’s “funny money” accusations against his organization. Apparently Yele Haiti has already raised more than $2 million to help earthquake victims, since the 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti this past Tuesday. Peep Wyclef’s video response below…

Talking about the First Lady, the Obama’s gave People magazine their first interview of 2010…

As a woman under 50, would she [Mrs Obama] stop getting annual mammograms in light of the controversial new guidelines on breast cancer? She replied:

I do [get annual mammograms], and I’m not going to change. I tend to err on the side of caution in every aspect of my health. The broader message to women is that we have to own our health. Listen to advice, but ultimately we’ve got to take care of ourselves.

Can Tiger Woods be rehabilitated? President Obama says:

Absolutely. I don’t want to comment on his personal relationship with his wife and family, but I’m a strong believer that anybody can look within themselves, find their flaws and fix them. I’m sure he feels terrible about what happened, and I suspect that he will try to put his life back together again.

Asked if she’s unnerved by the security breach at the White House State Dinner First Lady Michelle Obama said:

The state dinner was an outstanding success. It’s just the follow-up after it. I look at the reporting on the state dinner and go, ‘Is that all that happened? Really. Because I sat in a phenomenal dinner where the prime minister and his wife were, felt, so connected to the United States and they were so proud to be there. And the evening was so wonderful and it was so well orchestrated,” she said. ‘For me the other stuff that everyone is talking about is a footnote to what the state dinner actually was. So I wouldn’t do that over.

As for Senator Harry Reid’s comments about candidate President Obama having a good shot at the presidency because he’s a “light-skinned” African American who had “no Negro dialect,” First Lady Michelle Obama refused to add to the controversy, saying:

Harry Reid had no need to apologize to me. Because I know Harry Reid. I measure people more so on what they do, rather than the things that they say.

As you guys recall, the Nobel committee awarded President Barack Obama the Peace Prize just 10 months into his Presidency, citing his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”. He is the third sitting U.S. president to receive the prize.

President Obama said that he planned to give away his $1.4 million prize to charity! How cool & awesome is he….I mean really?

U.S First Lady, Mrs. Obama graces Glamour magazine’s annual Women of the Year issue. Glamour is honoring the fab First Lady with a Special Recognition award for her commitment to mentoring young women.

So according to Glamour, this is the first time in the magazine’s 70-year history when First Lady does the cover! And cover she did and she looks fab in the holiday color. First Lady Michelle donned a red frock with a modified ball-skirt and a bow-inspired chunky necklace, all from her ward-robe.

Here are some snippets of her Glamour interview…

Mentoring matters, especially for young women: “I think that mentoring is such a critical part of the role I can play in this position. I see how little bits of exposure and big bits of exposure really change my girls significantly, and I want that for more girls around the country and the world.”

When it comes to looks and style, set your own standards: “People are always going to have opinions, and people have a right to their opinions, particularly when you’re the First Lady; you’re representing the nation. So I can’t be surprised that people are interested. But I’ve tried to be at peace with the choices that I make first, and then be open to everyone else’s reflection.”

Absolutely heart her…

Nice to see that our First Lady is sensible about her ward-robe. So Chicago is trying to bring the Olympics to the Windy City in 2016 & carrying Chicago’s torch are the O factors as in President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and of course Chi-town chic herself Oprah.

First Lady Michelle and Oprah are in Copenhagen, Denmark where the 121st International Olympic Committee Session and XIII Olympic Congress are being held.

So in a few hours, the International Olympic Committee, in their Friday meeting  will decide who gets the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, Chicago, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid or Tokyo…

President Barack Obama is flying into Copenhagen Friday morning. Spain will bring King Juan Carlos I. Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama will rep Japan. And finally Brazil has President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to represent Rio de Janeiro’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics….let the games begin!

Europe seems to be the place to be! The 2009 MOBO awards were just recently held in Glasgow, Scotland and now over to Milan, Italy for their version of Fashion Week…

So Zimbabwe is doing it BIG! First, vocalist and bassist Shingai Shoniwa of the British group Noisettes rocks out during their 2009 tour concert stop at the Postbahnhof in Berlin, Germany. Loving their indie rock music! Shingai has an amazing life story of courage & triumph and it is beautiful to see a Zimbabwean rep on the world stage…lovely stuff this!

Then yesterday Oprah feartured Zimbabwean author, Tererai Trent on her show! Tererai went from rural Zimbabwe to receiving her pHD in 2009…”Tererai’s mother encouraged her to write her dreams on a piece of paper. The 20-year-old placed them in a scrap of tin and buried them under a rock…” [sniff, sniff - excuse me!]

Singapore finally welcomed Bey! So this is day 3 and Beyonce performing at the F1 Rocks Singapore concert at Fort Canning Park in Singapore.

Happy Birthday Sesame Street!

As a great birthday guest to come over for the 40^th party is one of the most fashionable and phenomenal women on Earth, Michelle Obama!!

The oh-so fashionable savvy First Lady, Michelle Obama is set to appear with Elmo and Big Bird on Sesame Street!  Mrs. Obama will be appearing on the first episode of the 40^th anniversary series of Sesame Street on November 10^th.

“All these seeds need to grow are sun, soil and water,” the first lady says on the show. “If you eat these healthy foods, you’re going to grow up to be big and strong, like me. I know you’re going to like these vegetables, because in addition to being healthy, they really taste great!”

I know Mrs. Obama loves to garden and its nice to hear that she has planted a fruit and vegetable garden at the White House.  Recently, she has voiced her opinions on America’s obesity problems, hoping for a healthier future.
