AFRIMA 2015 Stakeholders Conference Johannesburg

The All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA for short held its South African Stakeholders Conference which was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rosebank.

Basically AFRIMA is all about a combined effort to recognise, award, promote and preserve Africa’s rich music culture. Its vision is to become the ultimate recognition of African music globally.

This activation was to encourage South African artists to submit their music for the awards. Entries close on July 20, 2015, music professionals of African origin living either on the continent or abroad are eligible. The award is open to Artists, Songwriters, Video Directors, Music Producers and Music Journalists as well as unrecorded artists in the 33 categories. To submit or read guidelines visit

Last year saw only two South African artists win namely Mi Casa and Heavy K. Both were awarded their trophies at the conference although Mi Casa couldn’t be there personally their management was there to receive it on their behalf.

Disappointing was the lack of attendance from the South African musicians. In order for our music to be recognized I would think more effort is needed from them, as they always cry foul. That’s just my 2cents worth…

Anyway this was a very informative and interesting session. And look forward to the awards ceremony later on in the year, in Nigeria. The award ceremony will take place on the 15th of November 2015.

Thanks for the invite, now can I have a sponsor to attend the awards?
