On Thursday night I dragged myself to the launch of the International Smash Hit Show, Lip Sync Battle held at Hard Rock Cafe in Sandton.
I loved the vibe at the launch, the venue was a bit odd for me but eventually I understood why they choose it. As MTV was shooting, the setup worked in their favour.
The concept of this show is that celebrities go against each other lip syncing well known songs in the hope of being crowned the Lip Syncing champion. And for us to better understand the show, our very own celebrities went head-on-head with each other lip syncing to their favourite songs.
Khanyi Mbau vs Amanda Du-Pont
My favourite was Khanyi Mbau (who sang Busisiwas’ hit song Ngoku) and Jessica Nkosi (she sang a Tiwa Savage track). Other celebs who took part were Thando Thabethe, Amanda Du-Pont, AnkleTap, Tall Ass Mo, Miss SA Liesl Laurie and Mantsoe Pout.
Tall Ass Mo vs. AnkleTap
Sizwe Dhlomo was our host while Mo Flava was there as a commentator. And the shade that was thrown on that stage deserves its own show…
Later on the evening, we got a preview of the first episode of Lip Sync Battle hosted by LL Cool J with Chrissy Teigen as a commentator. Had me hooked so much I watched the repeat on Friday, its such a cool concept. Let’s hope there will be a South African version soon.
Make sure you catch it on MTV at 20:50 every Thursday and on MTV Base at 16:00 on Fridays. Rumour has it that viewers will see this recording on the 16th of July on MTV, so keep it looked.
Thanks for the invite Mel and MTV. Great night indeed…
