The demand in the interest of Zimbabwean Music has been increasing of late, with artists such as Winky D, Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, Stunner, Makoomba and a whole lot getting a lot of international recognition.
We have seen a lot of Zimbabwean artists collaborating with international acts. The likes of Award Winning Musician, Peekay, did a collaboration with the most sought-after Jamaican artist, Busy Signal in 2014. An increase to reach out to a global audience has also led to many other fellow artists such as Simba Tagz collaborating with Ice Prince, Buffalo Souljah taking every path to make sure his music reaches many people and Dj Stavo also making waves for Zimbabwean Music.
With the rise to continue being relevant, Hip Hop Act – Cal_Vin is no exception to staying on top of the game. The Zimbabwe Hip Hop Music Award Nominee has not looked back from the very first day he produced his 1st body of work, to the 18th one. Cal_Vin is one name that is on the rise in terms of Zimbabwean Music and his catchy lyrics even caught the attention of Africa’s Cassper Nyovest when he was in Zimbabwe, performing for the first time in February 2015.
It took a Tweet Mention from Africa’s Hip Hop Giant Cassper Nyovest to get the teams of both artists to work on a collaborated remix of Cal_Vin’s song, Z’khuphan’. End of February, the official video of Z’khuphan’ dropped with Zimbabwe’s Socialite – Mbo Mahocs as the main Video Vixen. It didn’t take time before the YouTube views started increasing to thousands.
Fast forward, 25 April 2015, the remix of Z’khuphan’ featuring Cassper Nyovest was released online for FREE DOWNLOAD. In less than 24 hours, the song is over 27,600 downloads, making it Zimbabwe’s Most Downloaded Song in less than 24 hours for the Decade.
“That’s way too humbling; I mean it places my name in Zimbabwean Books of History. I feel encouraged too to do more musical project and continue raising the bar. They say numbers don’t lie, and I believe these numbers are a reflection of the love people is giving the track. This helps place the brand Cal_Vin across Africa and the world as a whole, I would like to work towards being one of Africa’s Best Rappers. I love what I do and greatly appreciate Cassper, his management and my team for the great effort they put forward. Did you hear his verse though? I respect him so much, his ethics are outstanding.” – Cal_Vin
Not only did he later perform alongside Cassper Nyovest on the same day in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, but Cal_Vin celebrated his achievements through raising awareness of those affected by the Xenophobia Attacks in South Africa, a noble act for an artist.
