For the very first time in South Africa, the Jameson Cult Film Club invited science fiction die-hards to take part in an ‘out of this world’ alien experience at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown on Thursday the 4th of December 2014.
Offering more than a typically themed evening of sci-fi appreciation, organisers used a series of spectacular special effects and props to immerse film enthusiasts into an extra-terrestrial world aptly themed around Ridley Scott’s cult classic ‘Alien’ – the first paranormal movie of its kind to conceive fears of an unknown universe.
Throughout the bone-chilling sci-fi experience and contemplating the film’s iconic tagline – “In space, no one can hear you scream”, guests were invited to mingle in the über-trendy bar area. Just like cult film, Jameson is a social creature – smooth and playful – and the selection of whiskey cocktails served throughout the evening was a fitting addition to Jameson’s decade-long involvement with film.
This dedication to film has expanded to another motion picture initiative that is helping young filmmakers obtain their ‘first shot’ in a notoriously difficult industry. Now in its fourth year, Jameson in partnership with Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti of Trigger Street Productions, are on the hunt to for the globe’s most gifted, undiscovered filmmakers with compelling stories to tell. Three talented winners will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have their scripts turned into short films and to direct Adrien Brody in the lead role. The winning shorts will be premiered in LA with the acclaimed team in attendance. Closing date for entries is 1st February 2015.. Visit http://www.jamesonfirstshot.com for more information
