YFM ANNOUNCES 2013 PROGRAMMING LINE-UP

SA’s biggest urban radio station 99.2 YFM today announced their 2013 line-up with a fresh and dynamic shift in musical direction moving forward.

YFM – in line with their ongoing vision to develop and create a platform for fresh young talent, took huge leaps in 2012 launching several new faces alongside the new YTKO music mix format. In addition to a string of successes over the past year, YFM helped propel the careers of new upcoming young talent, including YTKO DJ’s Shimza, ZanD and Josi Chave through this new musical platform. Having introduced the market to a new era in DJ culture, YTKO sparked huge interest and featured several high profile local and guest DJ’s over the last twelve months.

This year YFM will continue to spearhead the game by further showcasing young talent and developing a few new Y Academy personalities including Mantsoe (co-presenter on Ankletap’s mid morning show) and Sol Phenduka (co-presenter on the breakfast show with Mo Flava) and also Smash Afrika (co-presenter of ‘The Afternoon Drive with Tholi B). These emerging personalities wil feature more prominently on the YFM airwaves as part of long terms plans for them to occupy more prime radio spots in the near future.

Having joined the team in 2012, the super sexy and multi-talented Thando Thabethe will move into her own weekend slot hosting the 12-3pm show. Bonang Matheba will take on the new role as presenter and producer of the ‘Entertainment at Large’ feature. The show will deliver exciting news from local and international red-carpet features, this will include interviews and inserts that will be aired across a station. Bonang will also be the new presenter of the Hot 99 R&B, which airs weekly.

The prime focus at YFM in 2013 however will be the music with the evolution of a new current global sound, featuring Dubstep as a core new music genre. Dubstep is a form of electronic dance music which originated from various musical genres including drum n bass, 2 step garage, broken beat and even dub reggae, now made popular globally by Baauer’s  ‘The Harlem Shake’. The Kwaito Hot 99 will be replaced by the Dubstep Hot 99, and in addition Dubstep music will be playlisted across the station.

‘New, trending and emerging are just a few words that come to mind when you talk about Dubstep, YFM’s new musical direction. YFM has always been known for ‘never playing it safe’ with anything we do. Our music offering has always been just that, and with Dubstep taking over the Hot 99 segment, we hope to yet again remain edgy giving the market what they want’, says Music and Digital manager, Mervyn Sigamoney.

As the face of this new music genre YFM introduces brand new to the scene, super sexy Dubstep DJ, Miss Kay Morgan aka DJ Doowap who will also join the YFM family this month.

Sigamoney concludes, ‘YFM has always been the future for music referencing, and again we promise nothing but the heat. An emerging trend worldwide (Dubstep music) enters the station as part of its core offering and will be delivered as only we can’.
