Loyiso Gola’s sold-out and outspoken comedy “Professional Black” returns to stage

He is South Africa’s most infamous Xhosa speaking comic; a prodigious talent who continuously enthrals live and television audiences with his unique brand of refreshingly frank and outspoken comedy. Loyiso Gola is not only one of the most gifted comedians South Africa has ever produced but also one of the most important ones, and he returns to the South African stage with a revamped, newly formatted show which promises to have you doubled over in your chair with laughter.

“Professional Black”, which took the country by storm last year, hits the Joburg Theatre stage on Tuesday 30th April, ready to push boundaries and go further than it ever has before.

Building off the success of his sold-out shows, “Professional Black” will be a comedy romp full of tear jerkingly funny and hard hitting punch lines, giving audiences a roller coaster ride in one of the most daring comedic minds this country has ever seen. “The title of my show alone ignites curiosity and provokes debate. Given the air time that the words ‘Professional Black’ has received in the South African media in recent times – people will have their preconceived notions and assumptions about the title means”, remarks Gola. “The show highlights these and many other stereotypes that we have in our country today – many of them nonsensical and absurd. In my own comedic way, I’ll not only debunk them but illuminate how ridiculous they are. For me comedy needs to hold up a mirror to society and allow us to find humour in our differences and flaws.”

If you have attended one of his shows or watched his satirical television show – Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola, it will come to you as no surprise that he is one of the country’s most recognized and decorated comedians. Gola has performed at all the major comedy events on the local comedy calendar as well as performances in the England, Scotland, Canada, US, Dubai, Nigeria, Mauritius and Botswana, and shared the stage with some of the best comedians in the world, such as Russell Peters, Paul Rodriguez, Pablo Francisco, Mark Curry, Jim Jefferies, Brandon Burns, Jimmy Carr, Charlie Pickering, Rhod Gilbert, Basketmouth to name a few.

He is without a doubt one of Africa’s brightest comedy stars, and “Professional Black” will give you insight as to why.

Tickets are on sale now from the Joburg State Theatre: http://www.joburgtheatre.com/ from R120. Tuesday tickets are half price.
