After years since the initial incident child star turned musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye and his friend (or should I say former) co-accused Themaba Tshabalala have been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The two were drag racing on a busy Soweto road in Protea North, their racing ended up with four pupils from Soweto dead and two brain dead.

Both accused will serve 20 years for the murder of the four pupils and another 5 years for attempted murder, the use of drugs, driving under the influence of drugs and racing on a public road, they got a year for each count, to run concurrently.

“Twenty-five years is not enough,” the aunt of one of the boys exclaimed outside Protea Magistrate’s Court, Soweto on Wednesday.

“Twenty-five years is nothing,” Lydia Matsimbia, another relative of one of the victims said. “He [Maarohanye] must apologise right now. We can’t accept that apology. He was supposed to make it earlier.”

The two will appeal their sentences on the 7th of February 2013 and only on the 13th of April will the ruling be made.
