LAURYN HILL Replaces JILL SCOTT To Perform At The 2012 Cape Town International Jazz Fest

Multi-Grammy Award winner Ms. Lauryn Hill has been confirmed to perform at this year’s Cape Town International Jazz Festival. Her performance will take place on Saturday 31 March 2012 at the famous Kippies stage.

If you guys recall, we had told you of the announcement that Jill Scott was set to perform at this year’s Cape Town International Jazz Festival.

Well, Ms. Jill Scott announced that she will not be able to perform at this year’s Cape Town Jazz Fest due to a role offer for a movie that begins filming at the end of March.

Jill Scott’s management stated:

“It was with great regret that we must cancel Jill Scott’s performance on 31 March 2012 at the 13th Annual Cape Town International Jazz Festival. Ms. Scott has been offered and accepted a movie role which begins filming at the end of this month. The rigorous taping will preclude her from travelling during this time and through the end of April.”

Boo.

But we understand. She took to Twitter [of course] to express her regret but said it was a role of a lifetime.

Besides, there is always next year’s Jazz Fest [hint promoters]

Rashid Lombard, CEO of espAfrika, the Cape-based company responsible for the largest jazz multi-event had this to say:

“We are extremely disappointed that Jill Scott has cancelled her performance and apologize for any inconvenience caused…. We are extremely excited about the addition of Ms. Lauryn Hill. She is an exceptional artist and festival goers can expect a sensational show. She completes a line-up of world class acts that audiences have come expect from the festival. Both public tickets and corporate hospitality tickets are completely sold out. Non -ticket holders are urged not to try their luck at the festival gates as there will be no tickets available,”

Lauryn established her reputation as a member of the sensational Fugees. In 1998 she launched her solo career with the release of the commercially successful and critically acclaimed album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill“. The recording earned Lauryn 5 Grammy Awards including Album of the Year and Best New Artist.

After several years out of the spotlight, Ms. Hill returned to live music in 2011. She has toured extensively since, including performances at Coachella Valley Music Festival, New Orleans Jazz Fest, and Rock The Bells.

In February 2012 Hill performed a new song, titled “Fearless Vampire Killer”, during a sold out performance at the Warner Theatre in Washington DC.

I leave you with my fave Lauryn Hill song:
