“The Art Of War” – Strive Masiyiwa & Econet Vs. Bharti Airtel Nigeria

This has been a protracted battle for one of Zimbabwe’s large companies (market cap) Econet and one of the richest man from Zimbabwe, Strive Masiyiwa!

The battle began with one Nigerian man, former governor of Delta State, James Onanefe Ibori.

In 2003 Econet attempted to resist a takeover bid by Vodacom of Econet Wireless Nigeria (EWN) in which it owned 5%….

Fast forward to January 24th, 2012, the Nigerian High Court ruled that Econet Wireless was entitled to a 5% stake in Airtel Nigeria, because it had held a stake in Zain when Zain’s Africa holdings were sold to Bharti Airtel.

Econet Wireless wants over US$3.1 billion in damages from Bharti Airtel in the Airtel Nigeria ownership dispute.
