Pretty girl rock, Keri Hilson recently rocked the Ivory Coast at a concert there. Keri also had the chance to visit an orphanage for children (La Caza) that lost their parents to the civil war & meet with the Prime Minister of Ivory Coast, Guillaume Soro.

Check out the interview from Okay Africa below.

On Why She Chose To Perform In Abidjan, Ivory Coast:

Well, I’ve been traveling to Africa for a few years now. I first went with John Legend on his 2009 South African tour. Ever since then I’ve kept wanting to return. My dream is to visit each country in the continent. You know, being African-American you truly get a sense of “home” while there. I was also impressed people could trace their lineage to a specific tribe, it’s something I’ve been trying to find out for myself.

On Visiting The Ivory Coast:

It was great! Though it was only a short stay, I got to play a show at Palais de la Culture d’Abidjan for about 4,000 people — the crowd’s energy was amazing.

On What She Did While She Was In The Ivory Coast:

I was lucky to get to meet prime minister Guillaume Soro. Other than that, we got to go to the beach, do a bit of local shopping and ate out a lot. I gotta say, out of the African cities I visited this year Abidjan had the best food hands-down. We were tearing up the poulet braisé, aloco and kedjenou (laughs).

Do you have a highlight of the trip:

Yeah, my favorite part by far was visiting La Caza — an orphanage for children who lost their parents in the civil war.  It was a really emotional experience and great to get to see the kids smile. For the holidays, I’m sending them over packages of bookbags, t-shirts, sunglasses, notebooks, and even an electric keyboard!

Some of Keri Hilson’s tweets while she was in the Ivory Coast:

Welp, after that meal I def won’t have ANY problem sleepin on these flights–I’m one stuffed turkey. #PeachOUT Ivory Coast, here I come!

Cote d’Ivoire, I’m here!! 300 ppl waited for me all day @ airport, and if that craziness was any indication of tomorrow’s show–WHOO-HOO!!!

I was just thinking: Nigeria, Dubai, & Cote d’Ivoire are the top 3 places I’ve been where it’s BLAZING HOT at NIGHT. #soak&wet4noreason 😉

Are you ready, Abidjan?!! I’m ready to Pretty Girl Rock the Palais!!!

Backstage pic for my Ivorian fans–4,000 strong! The funny part? My hair started off straight

These children lost their families during the crisis in Cote d’Ivoire. I wanted to bring joy…mission accomplished

We danced, we sang, we laughed. These things transcend language barrier. I learned that circumstance has nothin on the beauty of God in us.

Ivorian food is just unbelievable!!! Poulet braise’, aloco, kedjenou, mouton, fish (carpe, capitan, sol, tilapia), igname, & attieke!!!

Met with the Vice-President of Ivory Coast, Guillaume Soro, today. And there’s some good news that I can’t say yet about my visit :)

I LOVE THE IVORY COAST!!! So beautiful & peaceful with food to die for!! I WILL be back! Big thanks to MTN…

Yup. Africa rocks!
