BRANDING AFRICA: Brand Africa Forum 2011 In South Africa!

Happiest of Monday’s to you & yours!

.

This struck me to the core:

“China has an agenda in Africa. India has an agenda in Africa. The US has an agenda in Africa. We are naïve to think that the people that come into our country, even the ones who are here to help us, have no agenda. Everyone has an agenda….What is Africa’s agenda?”

Jay Naidoo, Chairman of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition
Brand Africa FORUM 2010

I was happy to see some of my faves leading the discussions at the recently held forum; Dr. Dambisa Moyo, global best seller of the books, “Dead Aid: Why Aid is Not Working and How there is a Better Way for Africa” and her recent work, “How The West Was Lost“, Professor Vijay Mahajan author of “Africa Rising” and my good friends, Dr. Jacqueline Chimhanzi,  Africa Leader, Deloitte Consulting & (her hubby), Dr. Arthur Mutambara, Deputy Prime Minister of Zimbabwe.

They were on hand to share insights and ideas on Africa’s growth, reputation and competitiveness..

The Brand Africa Forum 2011, hosted by the International Marketing Council, the custodians of Brand South Africa and the Brand Leadership Group, took place on the 29th of September at the Sandton Convention Centre, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Jackie was a facilitator of a panel discussion on Governance and Sustainability where policy enablement was discussed.  Her panel included:

  • Mr Miller Matola, CEO Brand South Africa
  • Ms Sylvia Mwichuli, Communications & Public Affairs Director, AGRA
  • Dr Joseph Annan, Deputy Minister of Trade & Industry, Ghana
  • Mr Shakeel Meer, Strategy Executive, IDC
  • Prof Keith Dinnie, author “Nation Branding” (Japan)
  • Prof Richard Mkandamire, Head: Resource Mobilisation, NEPAD
