MTV announces the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards nominees!!!

The annual battle for music video supremacy is on for this year’s hottest pop, rock and hip-hop artists at the upcoming”2011 MTV Video Music Awards” on Sunday 28 August.  MTV today announced the nominees for this year’s fourteen VMA categories. Katy Perry leads the way with an incredible nine VMA nominations which include“Video of the Year” and “Best Female Video,” for her explosive hit,“Firework”, “Best Pop Video” for Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), and “Best Special Effects”for her futuristic chart-topping hit and this year’s current top selling digital song in the U.S., “E.T.” featuring Kanye West.

Following her astounding year and success of“21” as the year’s biggest selling album to date, Adele has garnered an impressive seven nominations for her soulful smash hit,“Rolling In the Deep.” Kanye West is the alpha male VMA nominee racking up seven nominations for his collaboration with Perry, as well as for his powerful and artistic videos“All of The Lights” and “Power.”

 

The 2011 VMA nominee landscape is filled with MTV veterans and newcomers alike. Silky, smooth singer / songwriter Bruno Mars is up for four coveted Moonman awards.  Beyoncé,Eminem, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj and Thirty Seconds To Mars, have three VMA nominations apiece. Beastie Boys, Chris Brown, Pitbull, and Lil Wayne, as well as first time VMA nomineesTyler, The Creator, Foster the People and Manchester Orchestra all have two nods each for Moonmen this year.

Viewers can vote for general VMA categories, including “Best New Artist,” by visitinghttp://vma2011.mtv.comonline.

The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards will air on MTV (DStv Channel 321) and MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) in August 2011.
