This morning I was honoured to be among the selected few bloggers/media to be invited to a very intimate breakfast with renowned South African designer David Tlale at Baglios at the Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton, Johannesburg. Other bloggers and memebers of the media that were present included Janine Jellars (Elle magazine), Kiki Marli (Just Curious Entertainment), Dennis (JucyAfrica) and Mokgadi Seabi (City Press).

The goal of the breakfast was for Clinique together with David Tlale, to announce the fabulous partnership and basically offer a social and more casual setting for bloggers to get up close and personal with David Tlale. Clinique’s Brand Manager Loren Dreyer, explained why Clinique chose to work with David Tlale and also touched on the basics of the promotion and partnership at large. Clinique’s Communications Manager Natasha Bennette played us a video that pretty much summed up the whole partnership with David Tlale and what David thought he could bring to the table.

The reason Clinique decided to work with bloggers was mainly because they realise the impact social media has and the large audiences it attracts and hence want to join the social bandwagon in keeping touch with their customers and attracting potential customers. You can join their Facebook page on Clinique South Africa for regular updates.

Clinique decided to work with David Tlale in the 2011 promotion (last year they teamed up with  designer Nkhensani Nkosi) and David also designed a unique, one of a kind David Tlale bag for Clinique that is available exclusively at selected Edgars and Red Square stores. However, the bag is not for sale separately but comes as a gift for customers who spend R850 or more on any two selected Clinique skin treatment products of their choice.

This bag is worth spending that R850 or more on Clinique skin products…

Luckily for me, I got the bag (which David also autographed :-) ) and Clinique products for free all thanks to the Clinique team (SA) who took care of us very well. (can’t wait to rock my David Tlale bag and try out the products. My favourite product thus far is the moisturizer, feels so good on my skin…)

Clinique also got to know the man behind the brand that they collaborated with, David Tlale:

Clinique: What’s the story behind the name?

David Tlale: David Tlale is a reflection of who I am and where I’ve been, it will keep evolving as I do.

C: What makes you happy?

DT: I would have to say creativity without restrictions or limitations.

C: Who inspires you?

DT: I can’t really say who or what. I would say life, everyday something new inspires me. A new sense of life everyday means a new creation.

C: What is your favourite fashion passion:

DT: Just being able to create and add value to people’s lives by sharing my talent is my passion, I am truly blessed.

C: Essential wardrobe pieces for Winter:

DT: David Tlale Checked Flapper Coat, David Tlale black and red boiled wool shrug, Cream asymmetric coat, leather gloves and above the knee leather boots.

C: David Tlale 10 years from now?

DT: An established empire within the fashion industry globally.

Check out the short videos I recorded of the breakfast below…

You may not get the chance to have breakfast or dine with this legend in the making but you can get up close and personal with his work and via Clinique you too can rock David Tlale’s cool handbag.

From you girl Allegro Dinkwanyane- “I’m just saying”, so have your say…
