As a Kaizer Chiefs fan, by now you can imagine how tired I am of congratulating out biggest rivals Orlando Pirates. However, I’m also an avid soccer fan and pride myself with giving credit where it’s due. Orlando Pirates definately deserve all three cups and the “moola” that comes with each cup.

Today (28/05/2011) Ruud Krol and his men made history buy becoming the first South African team to win a treble in 1 season. *blows vuvuzela*

The game started very slow and I almost fell asleep as neither side was scoring. Going into the 2nd half with no goals I thought this could lead to penalties but luckily an own goal by Rooi Mahamutsa brought the game back to life. I think Pirates were too comfortable and that own goal snapped them back to reality and they showed just how much they wanted this win!

“Thulasizwe Mbuyane scored twice to give Orlando Pirates their second trophy in a season after beating Black Leopards 3-1 in the Nedbank Cup final at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga on Satruday.”

Earlier, Rooi Mahamutsa conceded an own goal giving Black Leopards a 1-0 advantage, but Isaac Chansa equalised before two successive goals from Thulasizwe Mbuyane.

Leopards played the last few minutes with ten men after Kwena was red carded.”

“Bucs are the first team in the PSL era (1996/97 onwards) to win three major trophies in a season (they had already claimed the MTN8 and Absa Premiership crowns) and the first to do so in South African football since Kaizer Chiefs in 1992.

Pirates’ previously won a treble back in 1975.”

Mbuyane, who scored a brace…

In other news: I am now eagerly anticipating the biggest clash this evening. Manchester United will battle it out with Barcelona for the sake of pride. So will it be Messi or Rooney? Guardiola or Ferguson? Europe or Spain?…I’ll keep you posted
