Hi everybody!

.

It is official folks! The 2011 BET Awards will air live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on June 26th. This year’s BET Awards show will be hosted by comedian Kevin Hart it was announced at BET Studios on May 17, 2011 in New York City.

BET awards producer, Stephen Hill and comedian Kevin Hart

Of course we were more interested in finding (confirming at least) which African artists were going nominated at this year’s BET Awards. Recall, BET introduced this category last year because AFRICAN MUSIC was and continues to gain world-wide recognition. I would be remiss if I did not mention that the music that is coming out of Africa and/or by Africans world-wide is phenomenal! They are bringing the heat & I love that the music is resonating with the world!

Rapper Waka Flocka Flame

R&B artist Marsha Ambrosius

Roc Nation artist, J. Cole

At the 2010 BET Awards, the inaugural list of African artists were (unfortunately) lumped in the Best International Act category. See the list below:

Best International Act
Kojo Antwi (Ghana)
Chipmunk (UK)
Dizzee Rascal (UK)
Estelle (UK)
Hip Hop Pantsula (HHP) (South Africa)
K’NAAN (Somalia)
M.I. (Nigeria)
P-Square (Nigeria)
Corinne Bailey Rae (UK)
Sade (UK)

Who does this?!?! I thought that this was soooooo clumsy of BET. How do you put Sade with anyone in that category. I can’t even put Beyonce with Sade in same category. Sade equals ROYALTY. Anyway, I am happy to see that this year, BET listened to our concerns and separated the category to Best International Act: Africa and Best International Act: UK.

So without much further ado, the 2011 BET Awards nominations are:

2Face Idibia (Nigeria)
