The South African Fashion Week kicked off last week Friday in Johannesburg. I however, only attended day 2 which featured designs from Urban Goddess, Silver Spoon, Sies Isabelle, Mantsho, Luxion Kulca, Rubicon, Thunderstorm, Gugulam and Gert-Johan Cotzee.

Urban Goddess

The designs were very creative, colourful, urban and very chic…definately for the “urban goddess”. The collection included a lot of hooded items and each item was accessorised well in a very playful manner. I could see myself wearing most of the items straight from the ramp.

Silver Spoon

This collection was very country like. The colours were toned down, a lot of neutral colours were used. I loved the jumpsuits.

Sies Isabelle

I found this collection to be very flirty and playful. It had that “girl from nextdoor” look, very effortless. The dresses were lose and had lots of floral prints.

Another collection hich I found to be very chic and almost fiesty in a way. A lot of African prints were used and it had a variety of colours. I could see myself in almost every item Mantsho designed.

Loxion Kulca

Loxion Kulca had young South African celebrities design their own collections under their label. The label has always been know as “ghetto fabulous”, making street style fashionable.

Rapper JR‘s collection was very sporty, for both men and woman. Also very colourful.

Musician/rapper Pro‘s men’s collection was very street like, it took you to the streets of Soweto.

TV presenter Lerato Kganyago presented her swimwear collection aimed at making the full figured woman feel sexy at the beach. I loved the colours used for each piece and the material looked comfortable.

Singer/model Phumeza‘s woman’s collection was sliq and sweet. Catered for all body types. I loved the piece model Precious was wearing, too fab.

Blogger/socialite Mika Stefano was a hit on the runway…

This collection had a relaxed look about it. Nothing fussy and too complicated. It was very flurry, with satin dresses, sequences and feathers. I adored the jumpsuits and the audience also seemed to love Rubicon.

This collection was for the working class man who wants to look his best at all times. Very casual, colourful, played around with different patterns. Some pieces were very sophsticated yet fashionable.

I had never seen Gugulam’s pieces before this and I was very impressed. I think she deserves more credit for her work. The collection had great patterns, subtle colours. The tailoring was done well. I loved the mini skirts, and high waisted items. Very chic and fit for all body types, I like, I like a lot!

Gert was the last designer to showcase his collection on the night. Let me ust say, things got very “spikey”. The collection was all about spikes, chains and edgyness. It was very rough, yet sexy. Miss SA Bokang wore a beautiful white gown with black detailing. GJC also included animal prints and a combination of very bright colours. Gert wasn’t shy with the pink. I loved the spiked jacket. The face of GJC Bonang Matheba closed off the show with a black chained dress that looked amazing.

I was impressed by many pieces from all collections but I have to say Gugulam and Mantsho did an outstanding job.
