Bafana Bafana (South African national football team), registered their first official win against Egypt since 1995. Bafana had never beated the pharaoh’s apart from friendlies. This time the two nations came face-to-face for the AFCON (Africa Cup of Nations) 2012 Cup qualifers.

I just came back from the Coca-Cola Park stadium where the game was hosted and I couldn’t sleep without posting this. I am beyond proud of our boys, even in the dying minutes they never gave up. Katlego “killer” Mphela lived up to his name and showed no mercy on the Egyptians in extra time just when we all thought it was over.

The game started off really slow and Egypt were on the attack but coach Pitso Mosimane made all the right substitutions (although I was sad Davide Somma didn’t play) and in the end they worked well for him. Credit should also be given to Tlou Segolela, I think this fast paced player is on a mission and should be a regular in the squad. He came on for Bernard Parker in the second half. Captain Steven Pienaar played well but not at his outmost best (must have been the slight injury), he made way for Reneilwe “Yeye” Letsholonyane and Siphiwe Tshabalala was handed the captain’s armband *proud moment*. Gaxa also made way for Cloete in the second half. Was also good to see Bongani Khumalo back home, he looks really good, Tottenham Hotspur must be good for him.

Mphela looked lonely in the attack alone but he found the back of the netm just when everyone thought we were about to settle for a 0-0 draw. Egypt’s number 10, 2 and 17  (too lazy to google them, lol) were superb.

Overrall it was a great match, the stadium was alive and the atmosphere was amazing. It was great to see South African’s behind their boys even after the world cup. Our goal now as supporters should be to sell out the stadiums when our  boys play.

In Bafana we believe and they delivered! DANKIE BAFANA BAFANA!!!

I was there…
