One of the Orlando towers

RJ Benjamin headlined this year’s “Amstel Golden Hour” tour session hosted at the Orlando towers in Soweto this past Saturday. I attended this gig straight after the #HansaPharrell media conference and was keen to see what RJ Benjamin, UJU and DJ Ganyani had in store for the crowd.

DJ Ganyani

The event was very chilled, had me thinking it was a Sunday afternoon chill session. The music was good and the people seemed to enjoy what they came they for. Amstel beer flowed and refreshments were also served to those in VIP area.

RJ Benjamin brought in singer Nothende to help out with the backing vocals and boy can she sing! I have never heard such a pure voice in a local female artist. There was a moment where she actually nearly had me in tears. Her music is so great, you feel like she’s talking to you directly.

RJ Benjamin and Nothende

Anyway back to the man of the moment. RJ Benjamin rocked the crowd with his all time hits and a special one of a kind tribute to one of his musical influences Michael Jackson (this he did with the help if Nothende and it sounded too perfect).

Words actually fail to explain how moved I was by the talent on stage.

However, the venue wasn’t as packed as I thought it would have been but nonetheless, those in attendance had a great time.

*Nothende’s debut album Lovelight is out in stores and trust me when I say “you wanna hear this lady’s voice!”

I didn’t stay stay right through to the end as I had to rush back home and freshen up for Pharrell and N.E.R.D.

What do you think of RJ Benjamin as an artist?

I’m a passionate writer, who enjoys writing and informing people as well as learning new things. I love sports, the arts and music. I am a sports presenter of UJfm 95.4 as well as other things. Simply put, I am a dynamic young lady who wants to bring about chnage and have an impact in both the media industry and in people’s lives.
