The countdown for all the “Weezy” fans has come to an end! 28 year old rapper Dwayne “Lil’ Wayne” Carter who was initially expected to serve a year’s sentence after pleading guilty to a gun possession charge back in 2007 was released today from Rikers Island jail. Thanks to good behavior, Lil’ Wayne shaved off 4 months from his sentence, which began in March 2010.
There was a bit of confusion around just hours away from his release: “A prison guard told MTV News early Thursday that Wayne would not be released until “probably” Friday, saying that his expected release on Thursday had been “miscalculated.” But a Rikers spokesperson confirmed at around 8:35 a.m. ET that Wayne had indeed been released.”
Weezy joined a list of rappers who have all tasted the life behind bars. “Tupac Shakur, Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown, Shyne, Mystikal, Gucci Mane and T.I have been incarcerated for periods ranging from months to years”.
According to reports a huge welcome home celebration is in store for Weezy: “Young Money President Mack Maine told MTV News on Wednesday that Wayne plans to celebrate his freedom with a party at a Miami strip club on Sunday. “[We] just treat him like a king, like the royalty that he is and make him feel like we really missed him and welcome him back to the family, basically.”
As hinted by Maine and Drake, Weezy might be making a special appearance on Drake’s tour “Light Dreams and Nightmares in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Speaking of Drake (who held the Young Money ship up in the absence of Weezy), he was so excited about Weezy coming home and nearly went rampage on Twitter. He tweeted that Wayne will be coming home between the hours of 1-2am and while he was at it he thanked all the fans for their support during the past 8 months.
When Young Money rapper Tyga was in South Africa a few months ago he warned that things are will get HOT in the Young Money camp when Weezy returns. “If ya’ll think we (Young Money) are hot now, ya’ll should see us when Wayne is back!”.
The Chart topping album he released while in jail!
Here’s my message to Weezy: *cues Usher’s “Daddy’s home” lol* Welcome back Wayne. Please don’t do anything I wouldn’t do, I wouldn’t want to see you sent back to prison. Keep making the music and while you at it, please bring the whole Young Money family to South Africa
