I woke up this morning (Wednesday, 18 August 2010) to the news via Twitter that local TV presenter of “The Weakest Link”, Fiona Coyne had past away! I was shocked to say the least. I put on my radio to see if I could get the full story. It was earlier reported by some media (let’s not play the name and shame game) that the 45 year old had died in a car accident while on her way home this morning. However, the truth is, as reported by the South African Police Services (SAPS) that she was found dead at her home in Fish Hoek, Cape Town this morning at 08:40 by her domestic worker.  It’s reported that police have opened an inquest docket, however, no foul play is suspected for her death.

Fiona Coyne was born in Springs outside of Johannesburg in 1965. Apart from being an actress and presenter, she also held an honors degree in Clinical Psychology and was the author of the book “Who Moved My Ladder? The Working Women’s Guide To Success”. She was also a member of the Capab Drama Group for several years.

Coyne was most famous for her witty personality that came with her role as the presenter of “The Weakest Link”, a show that scared the living daylights out of the contestants. (I used to watch this show when I was in high school, just to see how smart or dumb some of our celebrities were).

Her famous line from the show was “you are the weakest link…goodbye”. She was truly an inspirational woman and as we continue to celebrate women’s month in South Africa, we salute Fiona Coyne. May her soul Rest In Peace.
