So filming of the biopic “WINNIE”, based on the life & times of Winnie Mandela, the wife of former South African President Nelson Mandela (played by Terrance Howard) has been going on in South Africa over the last two months. The movie is being shot in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Robbin Island and is is expected to hit theaters next year.

Also according to The Hollywood Reporter, Wendy Crewson has been cast in Equinoxe Films’ biopic “Winnie,” opposite Terrence Howard and Jennifer Hudson as Nelson and Winnie Mandela.

Crewson (“The Santa Clause”) will play activist Mary Botha, who becomes a social worker in South Africa after witnessing a brutal police assault on a black youth. After befriending the Mandelas during the fight against apartheid, Botha is subjected to phone-tapping, police harassment and house arrest.

Darrell Roodt is directing the Canada/South Africa co-production, which is being produced by Michael Mosca of Equinoxe and Andre Pieterse of Iron Wood Film.

one things for sure, i hope they get the accents right. And maybe next time we should get a South African to play the part. But all in all I think they are talented actors and should be able to deliver

Oh hell yes the the cast of Winnie is great. I believe this movie out of the two are three that was made will make the biggest showing yet. Jennifer Hudson might even win another Oscar for her part. The both of these two Hollywood head hunters is going to bring it full force. This movie is showing Winnie going through her fight and struggler. There is even a bit of controversy that will happen with Winnie which the world will be very interesting to know about. I can not wait for the showing of the movie to come out.

1950 lady: I played as an extra on Winnie Mandela's movie. I had to be on set 05:30 in middle of Johannesburg and only started at 09:00 with the shooting. I am still waiting for payment and are very upset because of the fact that we were promised to be paid by 15 September 2010. It is now 17 September and I am still waiting for payment. Please could anyone look into this matter asap.

Terrance would, he is a good actor and does have a resemblance of Tata Mandela but not really sure about Jennifer… I fail to understand that with so many local talents in South Africa whom could have been chosen to play the Madikizela role, why they never consider locals whom have a better understanding of the role as well as the dialects and accents… I understand Terrance but Jen? No…
