Miss Gibraltar crowned 2009 Miss World in Johannesburg, South Africa!

Hey guys,

The world tuned into JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA, to watch the MISS WORLD beauty pageant! The  African-themed pageant took place today at the Gallagher Convention Centre located in Midrand, between Pretoria and Johannesburg.

Miss Gibraltar, Kaiane Aldorino crowned Miss World.

Ok, I know, like me, you are probably like “Gib -who? Who that is?” [smile]…Looked it up for ya and Gibraltar is a self-governing British territory located on the Southern end of the Iberian Peninsula and continental Europe at the entrance of the Mediterranean overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar. It is only 2.6 square miles in size and shares a land border with Spain to the north. Population of Gibraltar is less than 30,000…

First runner up was Miss Mexico, Perla Beltran and Miss South Africa, Tatum Keshwar was the second runner up. Miss Gibraltar defeated 111 other hopefuls at the spectacular gala.

There she is! The 2009 Miss World!

Johannesburg, South Africa did an “AYOBA” job at hosting the Miss World beauty pageant! Now for the 2010 World Cup! Bafana, bafana!

Miss World 2010 will be held in Vietnam!

    No prob! You sound very passionate about the topic! Wanted that energy [smile]!

    I do have to admit that is a sweeping statement to say “so called other races have access to plastic surgeons and etc thats the difference”…Blacks [Africans, peeps of African descent] have access too and you imply that other races win the pageant because of plastic surgery. Too simplistic. They are just as beautiful as we are beautiful. The definition of beauty needs to be broadened. However it is a competition and as with all competition, there are standards that govern the rules of engagement.

    What I love about us as a people is our ability to allow diverse opinions. While you may think that Venicia does not get your view, she is entitled to her opinion...hence this forum, right? [smile]

    Thanks for sharing! Glad that you enjoyed watching the Miss World beauty pageant! I am sure the new Miss World will do well at her new duties and you are absolutely correct, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder! I thought Miss South Africa was outstanding but I was disappointed in some of the girls that repped for other African countries...I do think the individual African countries need to do a better job at selecting their representatives and then investing in their make-overs, hair, dress and prep for the competition. Because ultimately it is a competition!

    I am not a writer but a ghost from your past;-) good to see you are doing well
    and homegirl Veronica above doesn't get it. These so called other races have access to plastic surgeons and etc thats the difference! Our flat noses big lips and buttocks will guarantee we never win this silly pageant.

    The Miss World ceremony was fabulous, no comment!!! I loved the presenter, and she handled the crowd emotions very well from the beginning to the end of the ceremony. Great staff !!!

    Taking a good look at the seven finalists, my Miss World queen would have been between Miss Gibraltar and Miss France !!!

    I am african but I think choices are not well done at the source for our black ladies. There are so many beautiful african girls who can valably represent our flags up there but somehow most girls get selected for so many reasons and for this special matter I do not see anything wrong if other races always get selected. Let us be fair here, beauty is in the beholder's eyes, they said; so if we are not best at beauty pageant competitions, then let us do something else where at least we'll prove to the world that African people have got brains and they also can rule the world.

    I am proud of the new Miss World, she answered very well to her final question amongst all and I think her resolutions are not that bad and she will also bring the change as she sees it should be done!

    Thanks for the follow up & for clarification! I totally hear what you are saying & my thoughts are that if the standards and definition of beauty are determined by people that do not look like you and I, then people that look like you and I will not win within that playing field. So either someone, that looks like you and I create a playing field so that, to quote you one "day when someone with your lips wins it and redefines standards of beauty"....thanks for the compliment by the way! Or we wait for the day when they realize that beauty is multi-faceted!

    You seem to be very passionate about this. Can you do a write up on this topic for the blog...No pressure! Let me know!

    Actually they cancelled the Miss World in Nigeria that year because of violence and held it in London, thanx for doing the leg work. Its still a racist pageant and would love to see the day when someone with your lips wins it and redefines standards of beauty. Just saying!

    According to the Miss World website, Miss World 2001, Agbani Darego of Nigeria was the first Black African winner and the following year Miss World was staged in her homeland, Nigeria, in Abuja the country's capital.
