Selena Gomez is on top of the world.  She has conquered television and radio, but what next is for Selena to have conquer?  A life-changing trip to West Africa to see the lives on the other side of life that is.  The Wizards of Waverly Place star, now being the newest and youngest Ambassador for UNICEF’s U.S. Fund, went to Ghana to learn more about the country’s children suffering from poverty and distressing living conditions.

Gomez worked with UNICEF in its goal to eliminate preventable deaths among the world’s children.  “Every day 25,000 children die from preventable causes. I stand with UNICEF in the belief that we can change that number from 25,000 to zero,” Gomez noted in a statement. “I know we can achieve this because every moment, UNICEF is on the ground providing children with the lifesaving assistance needed to ensure zero becomes a reality.”  (According to a recent study, Ghana is ranked 30 out of 195 countries with the highest mortality rates for children under five).

It goes to show that it only takes one person to affect hundreds to thousands to millions.  Everyone can do something good.  If we work together, we can change our world for the better.  Selena is the youngest at UNICEF Ambassador ever—you go girl!

Now, how are WE going to help our part in changing the world?
