“Nobody puts Baby in the corner…”

On Monday, September 14, 2009, the world was shocked and devastated by the late passing of Patrick Swayze at the tender age of 57.  After a near two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, Patrick Swayze died surrounded by his loved ones.  He sucombed to the disease on Monday after a lengthy battle.

Patrick Swayze had the natural swagger, softness, and retro masculinity that made every girl and woman swoon at the sight of him.  His movies consisted of The Outsiders, Dirty Dancing, Ghost and Point Break. His attitude towards his pancreatic cancer was quoted as, “Until it kills me, I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing.”  He worked on the television show The Beast, an A&E drama series, and was working on a memoir, “The Time of My Life”, with his wife Lisa Niemi, until his unfortunate passing.

Co-star, Whoopi Goldberg had many great things to say about her beloved friend.  “Because of Patrick Swayze, I got the movie Ghost.  And because of Patrick Swayze, I have an Oscar. I believe in Ghost’s message, so he’ll always be near.”

Born in Houston, Texas, August 18, 1952, with a dancer’s easy grace, Swayze – the son of a dance teacher and an engineering drafter – had a string of hit films in the 1980s and 1990s.  Swayze had the passion and desire for dance, which stuck, hence following his dreams moving to NYC in 1972 attending the highly prestigious dance schools, the Harkness and Joffrey ballet schools.

Despite the dance training, that was not made him into actor just yet.  It was one of my favorite books and movie that made him swoon to the public eye of the ladies, The Outsiders.

Swayze then shot to superstardom in 1987 with his film Dirty Dancing, a steamy international blockbuster in which he played a dancing teacher to a young wallflower who starts to bloom.  His wallflower co-star, actress Jennifer Grey said, “when I think of him, I think of being in his arms when we were kids, dancing, practicing the lift in the freezing lake, having a blast doing this tiny little movie we thought no one would ever see.”

Forever a Hollywood star, Patrick Swayze truly gave the world the time of their lives and he shan’t be forgotten by many.
